Styrolution has introduced new modified styrene acrylic copolymer blends which are based on a new, proprietary impact-modifying technology. The Zylar 670 and Clearblend 155 grades offer a combination of water clear transparency and high strength. Performing well in drop tests, these grades provide the strength needed for a wide range of applications.
High impact resistant styrenics feature higher flowability than PC
Zylar 670 is a transparent MBS (Methyl Methacrylate Butadiene Styrene) copolymer that features water clear transparency, good chemical resistance and very good impact-resistance when dropped. In addition, the material also features higher flowability than competitive materials such as polycarbonate and copolyesters. In spiral flow tests, the resins flow the same distance as polycarbonate at significantly lower temperatures. This leads to lower energy consumption and less molded-in stress. Zylar 670 can be used in household applications (e.g. appliance housings), in medical devices (e.g. infusion systems and respiratory devices), and in the construction industry for sanitary housings.
Styrene acrylic copolymer in dry blend form
Clearblend 155 is a clear, impact-modified, transparent styrene acrylic copolymer dry blend that provide ease of processing and low density advantages, but ina cost effective dry blend form. This resin provides balanced clarity and toughness, and can be used in a variety of applications including point of purchase displays, toys and leisure items, appliances, office accessories and consumer goods.
The company also announced the start of NAS production in its Decatur, Alabama site and will open a new NAS and Zylar plant in Ludwigshafen, Germany, which will begin production in early October.
