Valentino Des Ateliers: Stories of tailors and painters
This is the story of the setting up of an experiment - a meeting of two different galaxies of expression. How Haute Couture can seek in Art the signs and polychromies that are distinctive neologisms of contemporaneity. This is the challenge of "Valentino des Ateliers", a collection by the Valentino Maison for autumn - winter 2021 - 2022. Born from the collaboration between the creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli and the curator Gianluigi Ricuperati, it involved sixteen painters and the visual artist Maurizio Cilli, who was invited to capture on video the complex steps of the entire creative process of a collection born during the pandemic. From the first meetings with the artists to build a common lexicon, to the interpretation, never literal, of the design implications between the two-dimensional dimension of the work on canvas and the restitution of a dress for the body. What the artist offers is the discreet gaze of his eyes, enraptured by the grace and mastery of the work at the Ateliers Valentino in Rome and Paris, up to the surprising epilogue at the Gaggiandre in the Arsenale in Venice.
